The Masai Mara and the wildlife
The Masai Mara is an amazing place for wildlife photography. It is part of the larger Serengeti eco system and well known for its typical East African savannah landscape. In particular the big cats (lion, cheetah and leopard) are great to photograph here, but there’s so much more to see, such as other predators (hyena, smaller cats, etc.), elephants, giraffe and many species of birds. This time of year is more quiet than the high season, and therefore perfect for photographing the big cats and other wildlife in the Mara. The stunning savannah landscape of the Mara provides us with many photography opportunities, such as silhouet shots and layering.

Apart from an amazing safari trip, this is also a photography workshop. I’ll teach you everything you need to know about camera settings, creating interesting compositions, handling difficult situations such as low light and sunsets, and post processing. Pre-trip, I’ll be happy to answer any questions and prepare you for this trip. During the drives, I’ll work with the guides to get us into great positions and locations for photography and of course will help you with any questions. During our time in camp I’m available for questions or demonstrations of post processing. Experienced photographers will enjoy this trip as well, because we’ll take all the time we need and everything on this trip is catered towards photography. It will be a very different experience than a ‘regular’ safari trip, with much more time, space and potential to create that perfect picture.

The ultimate ‘Out of Africa’ experience!
Our camp is a lovely tented camp with a very personal touch. Our tents give a great bush vibe (including the fantastic sounds in the night of hippo’s nearby in the river and lions roaring far away in the reserve), but have everything you need (running hot water, comfortable beds, solar lamps and even charging points for equipment). There’s a very nice lounge tent, great lunches and dinner in the restaurant tent and even the option to get a massage in the spa!
In total, we will spend about 45 hours or more in the field. Our morning drives start early, before 6AM, and will last until around 11. Somewhere during the morning we will have time to stretch our legs and enjoy our breakfast on a nice (and safe) spot in the bush. After return we have time for relaxing, lunch, and any personal photography questions or feedback, our afternoon drive starts around 4PM. Around 7, we’ll get back in camp for a hot shower and a relaxed evening with dinner and drinks around the campfire

“In January 2019 we joined Evert on a photo trip to the Masai Mara, and it was simply amazing! Everything was perfectly taken care of. Mara Eden is very centrally located to see different parts of the reserve, and it has nice spacious tents and hippo’s in front of the door in the river! We have been able to photograph so much wildlife; the highlight being the leopard mother with cub. Evert is not only a wildlife photographer but also a photography teacher and is able to give many useful tips. He’s also a very experienced traveler, so if something doesn’t go according to plan, he knows how to fix it without us even knowing it. It was a brilliant trip and comes highly recommended!” Ellen & Marco
